Retirement
I retired from the industry a couple months ago, and I've observed how difficult it is to keep up with the InfoSec industry, when you're not in the industry. Infosec is one of the fastest changing industries there is, and it requires daily attention, dedication to self education and a real passion for what you do. It's not a job you can finish at the end of the day and forget until the next day. Consider this when choosing InfoSec as your career. But if you're willing to put the time in and dedicate yourself to your career, it's one that is both satisfying and rewarding.

Hi Jeff!
I went back to reread some of my old writings on blogspot (grits-n-eggs) and saw a comment from you on the one about my mother (a unique perspective.) I had an overwhelming wave of nostalgia crash over me. My eyes are still misty.
I stay so busy that I rarely have time to speak with anyone anymore. Right now I'm in the middle of the country listening to a herd of goats, (right after feeding them and all our horses,) and making phone calls to set up cranes to place air conditioners on top of country clubs, LOL. Seriously, our little company has grown and we do all the work for all the country clubs within driving distance. And that doesn't count any of the other businesses or residential work we do.
But as great as that is, I catch myself longing for the good old days of paycheck to paycheck and evenings at home talking politics, or football, or baseball (my Texas Rangers finally did it!!!) I miss the old days sometimes so much I can barely stand it.
You and your family have crossed our minds at least a million times through the past "muffled-number" years. That beautiful girl has to be grown now, and so are our two kids. Absolutely nothing has worked out the way we hoped it would, and in some ways that's fantastic and in other ways it's heartbreaking. But in all ways we've made it through and God has been good even when we have not.
Congratulations on your retirement. I hope and pray nothing but the very best for you and yours. I'm sending you the biggest hug and squeeze for you and your family and a heart full of love. I have missed you my friend.
Eternal love and prayers,
The Smiths
(Brett, Tyra, Rodney, and Breanna)
